A team of 10 ringers assembled at Harty and managed to catch 20 birds. On a warm, dry and moonless night, but with a south-westerly that was stronger than we would have liked, we erected 8 nets covering the two pools, virtually nothing happened until 30 minutes before high tide then all the birds came in a mini rush.
The following birds were caught:
- Ringed Plover - 1 juvenile
- Grey Plover - 2 (a juvenile and a first summer)
- Black-tailed Godwit - 7 adults one of which had an Icelandic ring
- Bar-tailed Godwit - 2 juveniles
- Curlew - 3 (a juvenile and 2 moulting adults)
- Dunlin - 3 (2 juveniles and an adult)
- Redshank - 2 adults
The Black-tails were all adults in moult and all were fitted with unique colour ring combinations. The Icelandic bird already had colour rings and has been sighted at Oare and other sites in the Swale over several years, this bird was ringed as a breeding adult female at Siglufjordur in northern Iceland (66º 09' N, 18º 55' W) on 13th July 2011.
