Swale Wader Group

Seven ringers met at Harty for a catch on the high tide timed at 01:45 on the 25th. A still dry night with no moon gave ideal conditions for wader ringing. With the Brent Geese grunting in the background we erected eight nets over the two small pools and had a successful catch, comprising 76 new bird plus 2 re-handlings.

Birds came early with the first Dunlin caught two and a half hours before high tide.

The following birds were trapped:

  • Curlew 1 (a female plus a one year old male retrap)
  • Black-tailed Godwit 2 (juveniles)
  • Bar-tailed Godwit 6 (all juveniles)
  • Knot 2 (both juveniles)
  • Dunlin 43 (a mixture of adults and juveniles)
  • Redshank 22 (mainly adults, plus a control)
