Swale Wader Group

In addition to studying breeding and wintering waders we also monitor the Marsh Harriers that breed on the Isle of Sheppey.

We carried out a wing tagging programme on the Sheppey breeding Marsh Harriers from 2009 until 2013 tagging a total of 65 nestlings, of these 34 have been re-sighted. Most re-sightings have been in North Kent but many have been reported moving North in their first autumn with reports from Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Teesside. Other sightings have come from Dungeness/Rye, the Isle of Wight, the London Wetlands Centre and Worcestershire.
